하나님은 우주 창초의 사랑스러운 질서 정연함을 통하여 부분적으로 자신을 계시하셨다.
그분은역사와 경험, 인간의 양심과 의식을 통하여 부분적으로 계시하셨고 무엇보다 아들을 향한 아버지의 증거인 성경을 통하여 자신을 계시하셨다.
그럼에도 우리를 구원하시고 우리를 자기의 가족의 양자로 삼으신 아버지의 완전하고 마지막 자기 계시는 오직 예수 그리스도안에서 예수그리스도를 통하여 주셨다.
그러므로 예수님은 나를 본자 아버지를 보았다고 말씀하셨다.
이것이 기독교 진리의 탐구가 승리의 나팔소리가 아닌 조용하고도 요란함이 없이 오직 그분이 아버지를 아시고 오직 그분만이 아버지를 알도록 하신다는 것을 주장하는 역사적인 예수와 함께 시작해야한다는 이유이다.- 존 스토트

God is partly revealed in the ordered loveliness of the created universe.  He is partly revealed in history and in experience, in the human conscience and the human consciousness, and above all in Scripture, which is the Father's testimony to the Son.  Nevertheless, God's full and final self-revelation, his revelation as the Father who saves and adopts us into his family, has been given in and through Jesus alone.  Therefore, 'he who has seen me', said Jesus, 'has seen the Father'.  That is the reason why every enquiry into the truth of Christianity must begin with the historic Jesus, who without any fanfare of trumpets quietly and unobtrusively claimed that only he knew the Father and only he could make him known.- John Stott
